ODEON
International Talking
Machine Co.m.b.H. (Germany).
The label is named
after one of the most famous theatres in Paris, and was created in Paris
and Berlin by F.M.Prescott. In Weissensee, near Berlin, the world's first
double-sided records were produced, under the international trademark,
Odeon. There was also an American subsidiary, which produced a 10¾
disc on blue wax, and a most distinctive label of a Red Indian chief.
In 1910, the label
became part of the Carl Lindsrom empire. In 1926 the label was bought by
Columbia, (along with Okeh). This resulted in the label design as shown
in L199. Artists on the later Am,erican labels included Miff Mole, Louis
Armstrong, Frankie Trumbauer, Duke Ellington.
