The Decca Record Company Ltd, in the UK, was formed in 1929 by stockbroker Edward Lewis, later Sir Edward. Rust [R] continues: For five years during the worst of the great trde sslump on the early 1930s, the company went from strenmgth to strength acquiring rights to various Amerercian labels - Brunsiwck, Melotone, and Amercian Record Corporation. In January 1933, Decca bought Edison Bell; earlier it had bought English Vocalion. Decca was launched in the USA in 1934. In March 1937 it added Rex and (USA) Vocalion.
EMI Record Ltd bought out theARC rights in 1938, and Decca had to release thier Brunswick titles. The twwo Decca compaanies on either side of the Atlantic continued in co-operation until as late as 1974 when Decca UK went under EMI, and Decca USA to Music Corporation of America.
In Australia, Decca was manufactured by Moulded Products Ltd, of Mlbourne, with masters mainly from English Decca and Vocalion; catalog 1000 p[lus from early 1932, to 1221 in early 1933. Miller [J] does not list any Australian jazz recorded on Decca.
